Tsunami Relief Community Hall
The shock waves of Tsunami still linger in our mind. In our country alone around 12,405 people lost their lives and approximately 6.50 lakh persons were displaced while 5,640 were reported missing and people of Tamilnadu were the worst affected. In Tamil Nadu, Nagapattinam District suffered heavy damage.
Our Federation, with its vast membership and true to our tradition promptly provided relief to the people affected by tsunami in Port Blair, Kerala and Tamilnadu by pouring in their mite in the form of donation
Out of the contributions made by our members from all over the country, our Federation allotted a sum of Rs. 20 lakhs for construction of a Community Hall at Sellur Village in Nagapattinam.
The Hall admeasuring 2,500 square feet has been built on a 10,000 square feet plot allotted by the Government in Sellur Village, Nagapattinam District. The Community Hall will primarily serve the Tsunami affected people of Nagapattinam District, the worst affected region during the Tsunami. This benevolent act vividly demonstrated that our members shall raise up to greater levels whenever catastrophies/natural calamities occur.
The hall was handed over to the people of Tamil Nadu in an austere function held on 10th January 2009 by Com. Prakash Gangal, Secretary of Federation, Com.O.N.Bindroo, the then President of Federation and Com. Bhupen Ch Kalita, the then Senior Vice-President of Federation, in the presence of our General Secretary Com. C.M.Baskaran and other Office Bearers of our Circle Union.
The handing over of the Community Hall was a fulfillment of the resolve made by our Union/Staff Federation to help the people of Tamil Nadu through whatever humble means possible.
